Meningococcal Vaccines: A Technological Revolution

چکیده
The sneaky meningococcus is a bacterium that can cause terrible disease. Development of an effective vaccine has been extremely difficult. Meningococcal vaccines developed in the 1990s are based on bacterial capsule, shield protects bacteria and used to instruct our body combat this These work against four types meningococcus: A, C, W, Y. However, they do not B. Scientists had invent completely new way make vaccines, reading DNA search for protective components. With approach, named reverse vaccinology, three components were discovered: NadA, NHBA, fHbp. When combined with fourth component (PorA), form 4CMenB vaccine. This reduced meningococcal disease infants by 75% UK. Today, children all around world.

Edible vaccines are sub-unit vaccines where the selected genes are introduced into the plants and the transgenic plant is then induced to manufacture the encoded protein. Edible vaccines are mucosal targeted vaccines where stimulation of both systematic and mucosal immune network takes place. Foods under study include potatoes, bananas, lettuce, rice, wheat, soybean, corn and legumes. Edible va...
متن کاملControl of meningococcal meningitis with meningococcal vaccines.
The development of effective meinigococcal vaccines was based upon the finding that immunity to the meningococcus was directly correlated with serum bactericidal antibodies. Purified high molecular weight capsular polysaccharides of serogroups A and C meningococci stimulated the production of humoral antibodies which had group specific bactericidal activity. In controlled field trials in Army...
